[edit] Information
Pavel Klushantsev began working on this color film in Leningrad in 1954. With technical advice from Mikhail Tikhonravov, Klushantsev showed tremendous ingenuity in explaining and portraying man's conquest of space. The film was nearing completion when Sputnik 1 was launched. Klushantsev hurriedly filmed a sequence illustrating this feat and the film was released internationally a month later. Klushantsev's trailblazing visualisation of the past, present and imagined future of the Soviet space programme became electrifying propaganda when a clip was shown by Walter Cronkite on the CBS Evening News.
